The tour is designed to help you understand more about the melting pot of cultures that contributed to the birth of modern India.

 

You will see where the siege of Shah Jahantook place, meet Nazrul Islam- the ‘Rebel Poet’, learn about Bankim Chandra’s famous song, hear aboutthe Rising of Mangal Pandey and reflect on William Carey’s incredible legacy.  We will visit a museum with early Indian prints, enjoy the tranquility of the oldest church in Bengal, climb a clock tower of a famous Imambarah, explore the remains of an Old Dutch fort, wind our way through tiny alleys of stately Bengali palaces, and finish with a stroll along a French boulevard, all the while enjoying amazing river views.

 

 

 

YOUR HOSTS: Peter and Leonora are from New Zealand and lived and worked for many years as social entrepreneurs in Kolkata. Their desire is to empower people for a better life. They have extensively studied and observed the Bengali people, culture and the history that has formed them.

 

THE EXPERIENCE: 

Mughal Emperors, Portuguese Pirates, French Priests, Dutch Traders, Danish Governors and the British Raj. The present shape of Bengal is molded by a long history of intense interaction with foreign people. In the 19th Century this process triggered the “Bengal Renaissance,” a literary and cultural revival which awakened strong patriotic feelings that ultimately led to India’s independence. The unique cultural and architectural environment that resulted is what makes Bengal today. The tour is designed to help you understand more about this unique melting pot of cultures that contributed to the birth of modern India.

 

THE ITINERARY: 

On this Full day tour you will get a glimpse of Bandel, Chinsurah, Chandannagar and Serampore and will introduce you to the amazing cultural confluence along the Hooghly river that is often called “Europe on the Ganges”.

 

SHORT SCHEDULE DETAILS

Timing: Thursdays and Saturdays, 8.00 am to 8.00 pm

Starting point: Pick up at the BMS Gate, 44, A.J.C. Bose Road, Kolkata or agreed upon place.

Details: Groups of 4-12 people, Transport by Tata Winger, Indica, Sumo.

Morning & afternoon tea and lunch included

  1.       PAYMENT & CANCELLATION TERMS :

The booking confirmation is subject to the following terms.

 

Payment Terms:

50% at the time of confirmation. ( non- refundable )

50%. Before 15  days of sailing

(or full payment if within 15 days from the date of sailing).

  

Cancellation Terms:

50% if cancelled before 30 days prior to sailing

75% if cancelled within 30 days to15 days prior to sailing.

100% if cancelled within 15 days or less prior to sailing

2. No other costs, apart from the coverage on the itinerary, is covered in the package like expenses personal in nature or personal shopping or additional medical expense etc.

3.  Time Schedule is estimated. Actual may vary.

4.  Crossindia Management has the right to cancel or postpone tours sighting any reason like weather/political etc.

5.  Crossindia holds all rights of Reservation for Reservations.

6.  Personal belongings are customers own responsibility. Crossindia does not take any responsibility for any loss or theft.

7.  Customers are advised not to carry a lot of cash or jewelry in the tour. 

8.  Customers are advised to inform the team if they are suffering from any medical conditions or allergies of any type.
