Lake inside CME has registered about 32 species of birds as per a survey by Bombay Natural History society and Forest Department. This lake is the most well protected water body in the westernghats. Panshet, Khadakwasla, Bhigwan all lakes have major issues with encroachment and solid waste disposal. The Marathon passes along this lake and the rowing channel.
