Spectroscopy plays an important role in Astronomy. It helps us determine the composition, temperature, density and motion of planets, stars and galaxies. In this session, Dr. Najam will introduce us to the basics of spectroscopy and discuss how the spectra of stars and galaxies enable us to understand our magnificent Universe.
Come join us in discovering astronomy a bit more. The session will also include a small hands-on activity. Participants of the lecture do not need to have a background in astronomy or science, and can be of all age groups (preferably upwards of 10 years).
About the Speaker
Dr. Najam Hasan is the Dean, School of Sciences and the Head, Department of Mathematics at the Maulana Azad National Urdu University. He was earlier the Head, Department of Astronomy at the Osmania University. His areas of specialisation in astronomy are Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy, and he is passionate about making science accessible to people. Dr. Najam has a Ph.D. in Mathematics.
