If anyone was asked to name the first stuffed toy they ever had, the answer would probably be a teddy bear. Those cute and cuddly little bears that come in a variety of colours and personalities are a mandatory childhood accessory. Teddy bears make us feel comforted, safe in the dark and give the most amazing hugs!
So in honour of those wonderful teddy friends who never judge and give unconditional love – the world celebrates September 9 as Teddy Bear Day. It is a day to let children bring out their teddy bears and thank them for their company, the fun times had with them and for all the days and nights they gave comfort.
So it’s party time at Leon’s World Centre for Holistic Learning and Development and the teddy bears are the chief guests. Let the tiny tots bring their special teddy friends to the Toddler Teddy Bear Playdate. Have super fun with games and crafts, do some teddy bear yoga and listen to the tale of a very famous teddy - Winnie the Pooh Tale.
The older kids and the young at heart adults can get creative and be a part of the Build-A-Bear Workshop. The best gifts are those that come from the heart and what better gift to give someone than a special teddy that you have made yourself. Make a teddy for your loved one. This festive season gift your child or friend a teddy hand crafted by you with love.
While we are a part of all the merriment, we would do well to remember those who have never had even a single teddy. Donate your old, but whole, pre-loved teddies to those who are less privileged and let them be enveloped by the warmth that comes from the hug of a teddy bear.
